Prenatal Class for Expecting and New Parents

Everyone is invited to this FREE monthly prenatal class for expecting and new parents (and their families)! We will cover topics like breastfeeding, nutrition, car seat safety, postpartum depression, jaundice and more! Sessions are available in English with Spanish translation.

Offered the first Thursday of each month, 12-1:30pm (in English, with Spanish translation available)

Northwell UnLonely: Creativity Circles

Engagement in the arts reduces stress and burnout, fosters community, and helps people better understand themselves and others. The Creativity Circle program is a series of four fun and fulfilling arts-based group sessions that are tailored to benefit Northwell Employees. Every session is structured around three components: creative expression, mindfulness, and social and emotional learning. All of the creative activities are geared towards exploration and are designed to be empowering and accessible.

Reflective writing for well-being

Change often begins with self-awareness. Writing can help us be solution-oriented and forward thinking. Grab a pen or type at your computer while you are guided through this reflective writing exercise using journaling prompts which will motivate and inspire you.

Heart Meditation

We know that a healthy heart needs to be disease-free. But “heart health” in holistic terms also includes the subtle and emotional qualities of the heart. While recognizing that both positive and negative feelings sit in the heart, your whole system, including how you breathe, think, and feel, meet at this most sensitive spot. Take a few minutes to explore this guided meditation by centering your breath and focus your attention around your heart with themes of self-compassion and healing presence. (available in 5 or 10 minute sessions)

Workstation Ergo

Learn about general ergonomic risk factors and solutions. This session will assist you in how to properly adjust your position your existing workstation and how to alleviate any ergonomic pains.

Supermarket Savvy

Presented by an Employee Wellness Registered Dietitian

Take a virtual grocery store tour with our registered dietitian. Learn how to navigate the supermarket to meet your well-being goals; understand health claims on food packaging; learn how to read the nutrition facts panel; and find out how to make the Healthy Choice at Northwell Health cafes and markets. Get tips and tricks to stick to your budget, meet your diet goals, and eat healthier.

Healthy Choice Snack-Along

Did you know that cooking can also be a therapeutic way to boost your mood and relieve stress? To support you on your total well-being journey, we are excited to now offer our Healthy Choice Snack-Along wellness workshop. The Healthy Choice snack-along is a 15-minute virtual cooking demo and team building activity. Together, teams will learn how to make an easy and healthy recipe as well as basic nutrition concepts. Snack-alongs are a great way to add a quick well-being bite into an upcoming meeting!

Diabetes in the Real World

Presented by an Employee Wellness Registered Dietitian

Diabetes can feel like a full time job that you did not apply for and cannot quit. Learn how to live healthfully with diabetes and navigate real world situations with this disease. Topics include: driving with diabetes, dealing with diabetes in the workplace, traveling with diabetes, and special occasions.

Diabetes Prevention Program

Presented by a Health Solutions Lifestyle Coach

The program entails 22 1-hour sessions over the course of 1 year. Sessions 1-8 are weekly, sessions 9-16 bi-weekly, and sessions 17-22 monthly. Sessions are led by a certified health coach from the Healthy Living Program. Headcount minimum = 15.

Diabetes Prevention Program includes:

  • Meets for 22 sessions over the course of one year
  • Follows a CDC-approved curriculum
  • Is led by a trained Lifestyle Coach who helps participants reduce body weight by 5-7% and increase physical activity by 150 minutes per week
  • Research shows that adults at high risk for diabetes who complete minimum program requirements reduced their risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 58 percent

Dive deeper into the wellness programs available on myWellness powered by Virgin Pulse. Schedule 10-15 minutes sessions each for a crash course on Journeys, Nutrition Guide, Sleep Guide and Whil. These programs are available to employees, anytime, anywhere. This talk can be customized for unit huddles, especially for evening and night shift employee engagement.

myHealthyBody Demo

Introducing a new resource for team members looking for the management and prevention of aches, pains and injuries of musculoskeletal conditions (muscles, ligaments, tendons, and bones) called myHealthyBody. This online well-being resource, was developed by expert clinicians and provides online health assessments and delivery of evidence-based solutions through videos and educational animations and suggest the appropriate care setting for treatment if necessary. This workshop, conducted by a Certified Personal Trainer, will provided a general overview of the program including how to access, demonstration of exercises and questions and answers. (Approximately 20 mins)

Tiny Bites– Infant Feeding and the Transition to Complementary Foods

Presented by Employee Wellness and the Breastfeeding Resiliency Engagement and Empowerment (BFREE) Team

Learn about the when, what, how and where safe and evidence-based infant feeding practices for a healthy start. Birth to 2 years of age is a critical time for proper growth and development. Your child will be consuming small quantities of foods, so it’s important to make every TINY BITE count! Development of healthy eating patterns start early - from birth to 2 years is a critically important developmental period. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends introducing complementary foods (any solid or liquid other than breast milk or infant formula) at approximately age 6 months. The transition from exclusive breastfeeding to family foods is referred to as complementary feeding, even though breastfeeding may continue to two years of age and beyond. This workshop will cover the signs and cues that your child is developmentally ready to transition to solid foods.

Transamerica: the Importance of Financial Wellness

The Role of a Retirement Planning Consultant from Transamerica is to promote a participant toward a fully funded retirement. They do this by educating participants on the key areas of retirement planning using the tools available in the dedicated website including insight into the investment funds offered under the plan to help them meet retirement objectives.
